Keeping track of the books I read.
I liked this, nice to go into battle with the relatable Imperial Guard rather than the grunting alpha male Space Marines for a change. Gaunt doesn’t seem very Commissar-y though, not nearly mental as I remember them being from back in the day.

Thought I’d dip back into Conn Iggulden after getting a bit bored of his Khan books. This was decent enough, on reflection it’s an early book and shows it to a certain extent. Good action though.

This blog is two! It’s slightly sad I have a reminder in my calendar for this. 65 books read in the last year by my count. Looking back, perhaps less sci fi next year.

Interesting angle on the World Eaters before they go completely bananas, but I don’t buy Lorgar’s seemingly near limitless power. The World Eater fleet captain was probably the best character in it.
An aside - I might have missed it but it’s implied Angron’s homeworld is part of the ‘500 Worlds of Ultramar’ - with a slave caste and gladiator pits? Yeah right.

Yet more Primarchs, but at least these are fun ones. If you can call Perturabo fun. Which you can’t. Not sure I liked the AND THEY ALL WENT AND LIVED IN THE EYE OF TERROR ending that much though. Which now I think of it was the bloody end of A Thousand Sons too. MCNEILL! GET IN HERE!

Again, the loyalist Primarchs are tedious bastards - Sanguinius and his big gay wings can do one. The actual fight between the Blood Angels and the Chaos host was well done though.

Loved the Night Lords story, the rest were pretty good.

I do enjoy a London-based supernatural mystery normally, but this wasn’t great. Odd characters and a horrible (in both senses) ending.

These anthologies are great, all the stories were good to excellent, but as usual the Alpha Legion are effortlessly awesome. I even like their Primarch(s).

Quality. Slightly oversimplified perhaps in some aspects, and the silo is hard to visualise scale-wise but those minor points aside - gripping and really enjoyable.
